A recently published study has raised concerns over potentially fatal health risks associated with using the insertable birth control device NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol and etonogestrel). The studies revealed that the ring greater increased women's chances for developing blood clots when compared with use of older hormonal birth control pills, The clots can cause victims to suffer heart attacks and strokes.
The British Medical Journal published the results of a Danish study that showed women using Nuvaring were 6.5 times more likely to suffer a pulmonary embolism or deep-vein thrombosis than were women who did not use any form of birth control. Also, women using NuvaRing were 90 percent more likely to experience a dangerous blood clot than were women who uses the pill.
Nuvaing is a soft, flexible ring inserted into the vagina once a month to prevent pregnancy. Since Nuvaring hit the market 11 years ago, it has been the subject of hundreds of lawsuits relating to blood clots.
Women need to be aware of the dangerous side effects NuvaRing can cause. When safer alternatives like birth control pills are available, there is no need for anyone to continue to use NuvaRing. If you or a loved one has experienced any health problems while usng NuvaRing, stop using the device immediately and consult your doctor.
