For readers living in New York, Connecticut, Massachussetts, New Jersey, and Rhode Island, check the milk in your fridge; Midland Farms, located in Menands, New York, has issued a voluntary recall of several dairy products due to improper pasteurization. The products are marketed under the brand names Midland Farms, Corrado’s Market, Jersey Dairy Farms and Trade Fair Premium.

The recall was issued on September 8th, 2010. The problem was detected the day before, on September 7th, when a malfunction was found in the pasteurization process. It’s important to note that no harmful pathogens have been found in any of the farm’s milk products, and nobody has contracted any illnesses; this is a voluntary and precautionary recall.
If you have any of the recalled products, you should return them to place you bought them. If that’s too much of a pain, just throw them away; do not consume them, even if they smell and look normal.
If you have already consumed some of the possibly tainted products, keep an eye out for any signs of possible food poisoning. Improperly pasteurized milk (and raw milk) can carry the pathogens for, among other illnesses, salmonella (symptoms include diarrhea and abdominal cramps) and e. coli (symptoms include fever, weakness, and bruising).
