A woman from Tennessee was charged with drunk driving after her car slammed into a motorcycle in northwest Indiana on November 5. The motorcycle passenger died and the driver was severely injured.

The Indiana State Police stated that the motorcycle was hit while traveling west on US Highway 6 near Valpaaiso, Indiana, by a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt.

The police stated tat the Chevy pulled out in front of the motorcycle while turning onto eastbound Highway 6.

The motorcycle passenger suffered severe head and leg injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital. She died a few hours later. The motorcycle driver also suffered head and foot injuries, and is in stable condition.

The Chevy driver was charged operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, a Level 6 felony, police said. She also faces misdemeanor charges of operating while intoxicated and citations of failure to yield to right of way and refusal to submit to a certified chemical test.

Our View

Our drunk driving personal injury and wrongful death attorneys in North Carolina and Virginia work on many DUI cases. Our attorneys always look closely at the circumstances related to the drunk driving accident. We always determine if the driver has a reckless drunk driving history, or is a usually responsible adult who just had too many drinks before driving.

We also strive to find every possible source of insurance recovery money, so that the grieving family or injured party can get all of their expenses and losses covered – as much as possible.

In some cases, we may also bring a claim for punitive damages. These special type of damages can be appropriate in some drunk driving cases where the driver’s behavior was especially reckless.

A successful lawsuit is especially important for a motorcycle accident. People on motorcycles often suffered violent deaths and severe injuries when they are hit by drunk drivers. Our aggressive personal injury attorneys always try to get the largest possible settlement or verdict in these terrible accidents.

The money that is gotten in these legal actions will not bring back the dead, nor will it always make the injured whole again, but at the very least, the family and injured have compensation that they can use to put their lives back together.
