At least 17 people were hurt during a bus crash in Anne Arundel County MD  last night.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department reported that a Regional Transit Authority bus hit a Toyota Corolla at Dorsey and Shipley roads at 8:40 PM. The bus left the road, smashed through a guardrail and into a wooded area.

Two people in the car were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and 11 bus passengers were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

In addition to Anne Arundel County firefighters, BWI Thurgood Marshal Airport firefighters, Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services and the Medical Ambulance Buses from Anne Arundel and Howard Counties all responded to the scene.

Police are investigating the bus crash, and neither speed or alcohol were seen as factors.

Our View

Our Virginia and North Carolina law firm often represents clients who have been injured in bus accidents, and these events can be quite complex. These accidents usually involve a large mass transit organization and possibly government officials, as well as insurance companies.

Dealing with all of these complexities can be a major hassle when you are suffering from a serious injury. Generally, the bus company will be liable for injuries and damages that is caused in any accident that occurs in one of its vehicles. If the carrier is owned by the government, the government may also be liable. It is important to speak with a personal injury attorney immediately if you have been injured in a bus accident as this is the most likely way to receive compensation in a timely manner.
