Washington DC Metro Sued for $50 Million in Head Injury Case

Comments Off

A Williams & Connolly senior attorney in Washington DC has sued the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority for $50 million, stemming from a Metro station head injury that he claims left him unable to work.

The attorney claims that he has not been able to work since a metal pole fell on him at the Metro Center station in August 2015. The pole, the lawsuit claims, struck him violently in the head as he as walking onto the escalator to leave the station at 13th St. and G St. NW.

The compartment that contained the metal pole, which is used to close the entrance to the station, was not properly closed and locked, the complaint stated, which was filed Dec. 1 in US District Court in Washington DC. The suit notes that video of the accident shows that the pole fell on the attorney’s head.

Our View

Traumatic brain injuries are very serious accidents that can permanently damage a person’s ability to work, have normal relationships, enjoy normal activities and more. Sadly, traumatic brain injuries do not always receive the attention that they deserve.

We believe this is the case because often times, the brain injury is somewhat hidden and the injury cannot be clearly seen on the surface. Just because an accident victim does not have an open head wound does not mean they have not suffered devastating brain damage.

Anyone who has suffered a traumatic brain injury should be evaluated immediately by qualified medical personnel. If the accident may have been caused by the negligence of another party, a traumatic brain injury attorney should also be consulted. TBIs can have long term consequences, and the inability to work and medical costs can be financially devastating.

Our Virginia personal injury attorney’s represented a family whose children suffered traumatic brain injuries in a rear end big rig truck crash. The children’s lives will never be the same, but at least the $5.5 million TBI settlement will help their parents to get their children the care they need.
