Recipients of Recalled DePuy Hip Implants Need to Make Themselves Known

The US Drug Watchdog organization is encouraging DePuy ASR hip replacement device recipients to identify themselves as victims as soon as possible. The group fears that once initial lawsuits concerning the recalled hip implants are resolved, patients who suffered pain or limited mobility because of the defective medical devices will find it difficult to receive sompensation.

Approximately 40,000 U.S. patients had DePuy ASR metal-on-metal repacement hips implanted before the devices were withdrawn from the market in August 2010. By winter 2012, only about 3,300 of those individuals had been identified as victims.

Many people who received a DePuy hip implant received a letter from the company in which DePuy offered to pay for removal and replacemet of the device. Even if a hip implant hasn’t failed yet, patients deserve more than replacement costs. Going through hip replacement surgery is painful, stressful and time-consuming. To have to go through the process twice is unfair, especially when you consider how universally the DePuy hip implants have failed.

"We want to make certain all DePuy ASR hip implant victims get to the actual trial law firms or attorneys, that have the best record in achieving superior results for their clients,” US Drug Watchdog wrote. Consider contacting a Virginia (VA) personal injury attorney if you notice any symptoms of hip implant failure such as pain in the hip region, difficulty walking, hip swelling or reduced flexibility. Visit your doctor and call a lawyer should you notice any of these symptoms.
