A five month old boy died and his mother was injured in a crosswalk in near Leesburg VA on Sept. 6 when a Jeep Grand Cherokee plowed into them.

The fatal pedestrian car accident happened in Landsdowne VA earlier this month when the Jeep driver was turning onto Riverside Parkway from Coton Manor Dr.

The Loudoun County police reported that the driver of the Jeep had retained an attorney and would not talk to investigators after the crash.

A witness, who was driving behind the Jeep, stated that he saw the Jeep driver holding a cell phone in his left hand and appeared to be reading on it. He also stated that the Jeep was tailgating the vehicle in front of it. The witness further told police that it appeared that the Jeep driver attempted to speed up to drive in front of the mother and her child in the crosswalk. That is when the deadly crash happened.

A search of the Jeep found two cell phones and a bottle of pills that contained Advil and unknown white and red pills.

Our View

Our Virginia pedestrian and car accident attorneys want to end the scourge of distracted driving in America. A lot of the problem is due to people being distracted by their cell phones, as may have occurred in this deadly pedestrian car accident in Virginia.

Our personal injury attorneys have spoken to groups of high school students in the past about the dangers of distracted driving. Not only can you kill or injure innocent people when driving distracted. You also can end up being sued for serious personal injury and wrongful death. Is texting a friend on a cell phone while driving worth it if you kill someone and have to pay millions of dollars in damages? We don’t think so.
